In The Shining, a struggling write named Jack Torrance moves his family to the Overlook Hotel when he takes a job as the winter caretaker. Jack's son, Danny possesses psychic abilities known as “the shining,” which allow him to see the hotel’s terrifying past and communicate telepathically with the hotel's cook. As winter sets in, the isolation and supernatural influence of the hotel begin to unravel Jack’s sanity. The malevolent spirits exploit Jack's weaknesses, pushing him toward homicidal madness.
