In 1986, several students from Hawkins High School were killed in mysterious ways. Eddie Munson, the leader of a Dungeons & Dragons group called the Hellfire Club, became the prime murder suspect and was hunted down by the Hawkins High School basketball team, led by Jason Carver, who believed that Eddie killed Jason's girlfriend, Chrissy Cunningham, using satanic powers. Dustin, Max, Lucas, Erica, Nancy, Steve, Robin and Eddie investigated and discovered that the murders were carried out by a powerful being that lives in the Upside Down.
